During the 2018/2019 academic year I was working at the IBM UK Laboratories in Hursley on an Industrial Placement Year, remotely due to the ongoing Covid pandemic.
I was part of the IBM MQ Operator team, working on robust cloud based software for business applications, such as banking and supply chain management.
Throughout the placement year I was able to work on various aspects of the product, from writing end to end, and integration, test suites to ensure the robustness of the Operator, to implementing new features to do with security logging.
I also worked on various other Quality of Life updates for the product, and the greater product suite, utilising my newly learnt knowledge of the Go programming language.
Throughout this experience I learnt a great deal about Enterprise Software Engineering, teamwork, communication skills, and working throughout the product lifecycle of a large piece of software
